Key Features:
Distinctive Appearance:
A beautiful Betta splendens variety featuring a long, flowing veil-like tail and elegant finnage. The Green Veiltail Betta displays shimmering shades of emerald, turquoise, and metallic green across the body and fins, often with iridescent highlights that change under different lighting. Males typically show stronger coloration and larger, more extended fins compared to females.
Graceful Swimmer:
Displays slow, graceful swimming with flowing fin movements, creating a dramatic appearance as the long tail trails behind. It enjoys exploring plants, decorations, and open areas of the aquarium while occasionally performing impressive fin displays.
Behavior:
Intelligent, curious, and territorial, especially toward other male Bettas. Known for its unique personality and interactive behavior, the Green Veiltail Betta is generally peaceful toward suitable tank mates but prefers having its own territory.
Care Requirements:
Tank Conditions:
Requires a well-maintained aquarium with gentle filtration, calm water flow, plants, and hiding areas such as driftwood, caves, or broad-leaved plants. Ideal water temperature is 76–82°F (24–28°C), with a pH of 6.5–7.5 preferred. Stable water conditions and a secure lid are important, as Bettas are capable jumpers.
Diet:
Carnivorous. Thrives on a high-quality Betta pellet diet supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and mosquito larvae. A protein-rich diet helps maintain vibrant green coloration, healthy fins, and strong body condition.
Compatibility:
Best kept individually due to the territorial nature of males. Can sometimes be housed with peaceful community fish such as rasboras, Corydoras, and kuhli loaches when provided with appropriate space. Avoid other male Bettas, fin-nipping fish, and aggressive tank mates.
Size and Growth:
Adult Size:
Typically reaches 5–7 cm (2–3 inches).
Growth:
Grows steadily under optimal care, with juveniles reaching maturity in approximately 4–6 months. Warm stable water, a nutritious diet, and good aquarium conditions help enhance the metallic green coloration and maintain healthy flowing fins.
