• Water quality: Filter and circulate the pond; keep ammonia and nitrite at zero
• Environment: Add plants and shelter while retaining open swimming space

Behaviour and compatibility

Keep with other similarly sized, peaceful pond fish that share its water requirements. Allow enough space and filtration for the full adult population; monitor smaller fish around feeding time.

Diet

Feed an appropriate goldfish or pond fish food in portions eaten within a few minutes. Adjust feeding to water temperature and reduce it as the pond cools; do not overfeed.

Care notes

Test pond water regularly, treat replacement tap water, and introduce new fish gradually. Protect the pond from predators and maintain a suitable unfrozen gas exchange area in winter.
