Overview
The Orange Thicklip Gourami is the selectively bred orange or sunset form of Trichogaster labiosa, a species native to southern Myanmar. It grows larger than a Honey Gourami.
Behaviour
Adults may reach 8–10 cm. Usually calm, but males can defend planted areas; watch for a weaker fish being confined to a corner.
Tank Size
Our recommended minimum is 90 litres with an 80 × 30 cm footprint for a single fish or compatible pair. Use 120 litres or more for a small group, with dense planting and separate retreats.
Compatibility
Peaceful rasboras, tetras and suitable Corydoras are good options. Avoid fin-nippers, aggressive cichlids and very fast feeders. Keep apart from closely related Banded Gouramis to avoid hybridisation.
Diet
Offer fine flakes or small granules with frozen Daphnia, Artemia or bloodworm. Feed in a quiet part of the aquarium so this slower feeder receives its share.
Care
Maintain 24–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5 and 5–15 dGH. Provide floating cover and gentle flow while leaving open access to the surface for breathing. Use a lid with an air gap. Keep ammonia and nitrite at zero and change 25–30% weekly with conditioned, temperature-matched water.
