Overview

The Platinum Angelfish is a selectively bred silver-white form of the South American freshwater angelfish. Its tall body and trailing fins need an aquarium planned for adult dimensions.

Behaviour

Adults can reach 15 cm body length and over 20 cm overall height. Pairs become territorial; several juveniles may stop tolerating one another as they mature.

Tank Size

Our recommended minimum is 200 litres, approximately 100 × 40 × 50 cm, for a single adult or compatible pair. Provide at least 50 cm tank height. Groups need a considerably larger aquarium.

Compatibility

Choose peaceful fish too large to be swallowed. Small neon-sized tetras, fry and dwarf shrimp may be eaten. Avoid Tiger Barbs and other fin-nippers; provide separation if a pair persistently bullies tankmates.

Diet

Feed quality cichlid granules or flakes, supplemented with frozen Artemia and bloodworm. Offer modest portions and check that timid tankmates receive food.

Care

Maintain 25–28°C, pH 6.0–7.4 and approximately 3–15 dGH. Use tall plants and wood to break sightlines, with open swimming space and gentle flow. Test ammonia and nitrite at zero; change 25–30% weekly. Large is a sales grade, not the eventual adult size.
