Key Features:
Distinctive Appearance: A slender, shimmering tetra with a silvery body often accented by subtle golden or reddish tones along the flanks and fins. It typically has a slightly translucent look that reflects light beautifully in schooling groups.
Graceful Swimmer: A highly active schooling fish that moves in tight, synchronized groups, creating constant motion and sparkle in the aquarium.
Behavior: Peaceful and social, but can become shy or stressed if kept in small numbers. Best displayed in groups where natural schooling behavior is visible.
Care Requirements:
Tank Conditions:
Requires a well-maintained, planted aquarium with open swimming space. Ideal temperature is 72–79°F (22–26°C). Prefers soft to moderately hard water with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Stable water quality is important due to their sensitivity to fluctuations.
Diet:
Omnivorous. Accepts a wide range of foods including high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. A varied diet enhances coloration and activity levels.
Compatibility:
Very peaceful and best kept with other calm community fish such as tetras, rasboras, small catfish, and dwarf cichlids. Should be kept in schools of at least 6–8 individuals to reduce stress and encourage natural behavior.
Size and Growth:
Adult Size:
Typically grows to 3–4 cm in length.
Growth:
Reaches adult size relatively quickly under stable tropical conditions. Growth and coloration improve significantly when kept in larger schools with consistent feeding and clean water.
