Behind the layout
This 112-litre Tropica display shows how living plants can bring aquarium ornaments into a planted scene. Broad Echinodorus leaves form the backdrop, Ludwigia introduces colour, and ferns, Anubias and moss soften the decorations.
Choose aquarium-safe ornaments, then leave room around them for planting and swimming space. Taller plants work behind the focal point, with smaller foliage around its base. The original setup used no injected CO₂, making it a useful starting point for planning a planted family aquarium.
