The Black Phantom Tetra (Hyphessobrycon megalopterus) is a popular freshwater aquarium fish that is native to South America. These tetras are known for their distinctive black coloration, which contrasts sharply with their white or silver underbelly. They are also known for their attractive red eyes, which are a result of selective breeding. Black Phantom Tetras are relatively easy to care for and are a good choice for beginner aquarists. They are peaceful and social fish that do well in groups of at least six individuals.

Feeding Black Phantom Tetras are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. They have a small mouth, so it's best to feed them small, bite-sized pieces of food.

Special Requirements Black Phantom Tetras require a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of hiding places and swimming space. They are sensitive to changes in water quality, so it's important to perform regular water changes to keep the tank clean and healthy. These tetras prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C). They are also sensitive to high levels of nitrates, so it's important to monitor water quality closely.

Ideal Aquarium Size The ideal aquarium size for a group of Black Phantom Tetras is at least 20 gallons (76 liters). They are active swimmers and need plenty of swimming space, as well as hiding places such as plants and rocks.

Temperament Black Phantom Tetras are peaceful and social fish that do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. They should be kept in groups of at least six individuals, as they are shoaling fish and will feel more comfortable and less stressed in a group.

Adult Size Black Phantom Tetras typically reach a maximum size of 5 cm (2 inches) in length.

PH Range Black Phantom Tetras prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5. It's important to maintain stable water conditions to ensure the health and well-being of these fish.
