Plants for Pots & Small Spaces
Bring colour and foliage to patios, entrances and smaller gardens. Explore compact shrubs, Heuchera, sedges, lavender and flowering salvias for suitable containers and small planting spaces.

Make a small space work harder
Choose plants for the light and exposure on your patio, then check their eventual size and container requirements. Heuchera and sedges provide foliage contrasts, compact Euonymus and Hebe add structure, and lavender or salvias bring flowers to sunny spots. Skimmia offers an option for suitable shadier positions with the right compost. A plant sold in a small nursery pot will still need space to grow: compare mature dimensions and repot as needed. Group plants with similar watering needs rather than mixing solely by colour.
Allow room for the roots to grow and use a container with drainage holes.
Select compost for the individual plant and place the container where its light needs will be met.
Containers need regular moisture checks, especially in wind and warm weather. Follow plant-specific feeding guidance.
