Housing & Setup

Enclosure dimensions below are length × depth × height.

Adult housing Adult: around 40 × 30 × 40 cm, with 20–25 cm burrowing substrate. Use a smaller escape-proof grow-out container for spiderlings, increasing space as they grow.
Enclosure type Secure fossorial enclosure with deep substrate.
Temperature Stable room conditions around 20–25°C; avoid direct sun and unregulated heat.
Lighting & UVB Normal day/night cycle; specialist UVB lighting is not required. Avoid bright direct light.
Humidity / moisture Maintain a moisture gradient, with damp lower substrate and a drier surface. Keep the enclosure ventilated and avoid waterlogging.
Substrate Deep, firm, pesticide-free soil-based substrate for burrowing.
Furnishings A ground-level cork shelter and a shallow water dish.

Behaviour & Compatibility

Do not handle. Use a secure catch cup for maintenance; bites and falls can cause injury. This Old World tarantula is for experienced keepers; its bite can be medically significant.

Feeding & Nutrition

Feed suitable live insects, smaller than the spider’s body, using its current size rather than adult size to select prey. Spiderlings need small prey more often; adults usually feed every 1–2 weeks, adjusted to abdomen size and appetite. Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours, and immediately if the spider is preparing to moult. No routine calcium or reptile vitamin dusting is needed. Keep fresh water accessible.

Routine Care

Check drinking water, substrate moisture and ventilation regularly. Remove prey remains and visible mould without destroying the retreat. Never disturb an animal on its back moulting; wait until the new exoskeleton and fangs have hardened before feeding again.

Important Before Buying

Confirm the supplied animal’s current size and feeding routine, and have its enclosure ready before collection.
