Gold Widow Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) is a shoaling freshwater fish. Provide a mature aquarium planned for its adult size and social needs.
Overview
- Scientific name: Gymnocorymbus ternetzi
- Group: Tetras
- Temperament: Generally peaceful in an appropriate shoal
Aquarium and water conditions
- Temperature: 22–27°C as a general guide for captive-bred tetras; confirm the requirements of the individual stock
- pH: 6.5–8.0
- General hardness: 4–12 dGH
- Setup: Filtered, heated aquarium with plant cover and open swimming space; size it for an adult shoal
- Water quality: Keep ammonia and nitrite at zero; test regularly
Behaviour and compatibility
Keep a shoal of at least five of the same species, with more where space allows. Select peaceful tank mates of a similar size that will not prey on them.
Diet
Offer quality fine flake or granule food, supplemented with suitable small frozen or live foods. Feed modest portions and remove uneaten food.
Care notes
Acclimate new fish carefully, avoid sudden changes in temperature or water chemistry, and maintain a routine of partial water changes. Confirm the precise needs of sensitive or wild-caught stock before purchase.
