The Diamond Tetra develops a striking iridescent sheen as it matures. This peaceful, active species looks its best in a planted aquarium with a group of its own kind.

- Origin: Lake Valencia and nearby slow waters, Venezuela
- Adult size: 6 cm
- Temperament: Peaceful
- Swimming level: Middle
Aquarium and water conditions
- Minimum aquarium size: At least 68 litres for a small group, with a base around 60 × 38 cm
- Temperature: 24–28°C
- pH: 5.5–7.0
- Water hardness: 5–12 dGH
Provide dense planting, shaded areas and open swimming room. Driftwood and sand can be used; keep water clean with effective filtration and regular partial changes.
Behaviour and compatibility
Keep a shoal of at least six to eight. Suitable tank mates include peaceful tetras, rasboras, Corydoras and small gouramis. Fish kept alone may become shy or nip fins.
Diet
Offer quality flakes or granules with regular small frozen or live foods such as Daphnia, Artemia and bloodworm.
Care notes
Juveniles are relatively plain; the reflective scales and longer fins become more apparent with maturity.
