The Colombian Redfin Tetra is an active shoaling species with an iridescent blue-silver body and red fins. It suits a spacious, well-maintained community aquarium with other appropriately sized fish.

Overview

• Origin: Lower Atrato river system, Colombia
• Adult size: Approximately 6.5 cm
• Temperament: Generally peaceful
• Swimming level: Middle

Aquarium and water conditions

• Minimum aquarium size: An aquarium with a base at least 90 × 30 cm for a group
• Temperature: 20–28°C
• pH: 5.0–7.5

Behaviour and compatibility

Keep a group of at least eight. It can live alongside other robust, peaceful tetras, suitable catfish and non-predatory medium cichlids. Avoid very small or timid tank mates in a cramped aquarium.

Care notes

This is a larger and more active tetra than many small community species, so plan the group and aquarium footprint accordingly.
