Budwing Stick Insect | Eurycnema goliath

Plan the habitat for the adult animal, with secure housing and room to carry out its natural behaviour.

Housing & Setup

Enclosure dimensions are length × depth × height unless stated otherwise. Plan for the adult animal; larger, suitably furnished housing is encouraged.

Adult housing Internal height at least 3× adult body length, with enough horizontal room for feeding branches. Keep a clear hanging space below the upper grip; enlarge for a colony.
Enclosure type Tall, well-ventilated insect enclosure with a safe moulting grip.
Temperature Day: 22–28°C Night: 18–22°C
Lighting & UVB Normal day/night cycle; UVB is not required.
Humidity / moisture 60–80% (maintain moisture to prevent desiccation)
Substrate Paper towel for easy cleaning, or a suitable pesticide-free substrate.
Furnishings & filtration Fresh food branches and secure hanging surfaces; prevent drowning in plant-water containers.

Behaviour & Compatibility

Handle gently and infrequently, never by pulling a leg. Same-species groups require ample room and food; do not combine with predators.

Feeding & Nutrition

Provide fresh, pesticide-free food leaves accepted by this species at all times. Confirm the current plant with our team; bramble is accepted by many species, but do not assume all plants are suitable. Replace wilted foliage and seal the water container around stems so nymphs cannot fall in. These are leaf-eating insects, not live-insect predators.

Routine Care

Replace food foliage regularly and remove droppings. Maintain ventilation and suitable moisture; do not disturb a hanging moulting insect. Check for eggs and manage the population responsibly.

Important Before Buying

Confirm the species’s adult length, food plant and moisture needs. Never release animals or eggs outdoors; adequate hanging clearance is essential throughout growth.
