About this variety

Tulip Cutting Garden XL is a mix of peach, pink and dark purple tulips selected for spring cutting. Plant the 12 bulbs together in a sunny bed or large container for colour outdoors and stems to bring into the house.

Why we like it

  • A ready-mixed palette for spring bouquets.
  • Useful in cottage borders and large pots.
  • 12 bulbs to plant in a generous group.

What to know

  • Position: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Avoid ground that stays wet in winter.
  • Planting: Plant in autumn, ideally October–November, about 15–20 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart. December planting is possible while the ground is workable.
  • Containers: Use a pot with drainage holes and free-draining compost. Water after planting and during dry spells in active growth.
  • After flowering: Remove faded flower heads and leave the foliage until it yellows naturally; this helps the bulbs build reserves.
  • Handling: Ornamental tulip bulbs are not edible. Wear gloves if sensitive to bulbs.

Flower colour: Mixed peach, pink and dark purple.

Flowering months: April–May, depending on the season.

Height and spread: Varies with the varieties in the mix; typically 35–50 cm; allow approximately 10–15 cm per bulb.

When to buy and plant

Spring-flowering bulbs are sold from August for planting in autumn. Follow the variety’s planting window; tulips are generally planted later in autumn than many other spring bulbs.

Planting and growing

Plant in a suitable position with good drainage. Follow the pack’s planting depth and spacing, with the growing point facing upwards where identifiable.

Aftercare

Water containers when needed and allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Keep pots draining freely and follow the variety’s aftercare instructions.

Excellent

Tried this substrate out of curiosity. Previously my gecko was on Earth Pro Arid which itself is a good substrate, so I didn't expect it to be outperformed. I prefer this substrate by far. It does not give off any dust when dry. When wet it sticks and holds together like sand on a beach, making it very malleable and easy to landscape your viv. It holds humidity very well. My gecko hates sphagnum moss, so I use this in his humid hide and it works just as good, so it's solved that issue for us!

Everything I ordered came packaged very securely with fragile stickers attached to the outside. Which was appreciated as bulbs were also in my order. Order arrived quickly too!
