Key Features:

Distinctive Appearance: Known for its pale, slightly translucent body with subtle mottling and a noticeable reddish marking around the mouth area, giving it the “lipstick” look. It often has a sleek, streamlined goby shape suited for bottom living.

Bottom Resting Behavior: A calm, bottom-oriented fish that prefers to sit on sand, rocks, or décor. It is alert and quick when feeding, but generally spends long periods resting and observing its surroundings.

Care Requirements:

Tank Conditions: Requires a clean, well-maintained aquarium with stable water conditions and gentle filtration. Ideal water temperature should range between 72–82°F (22–28°C). Prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH and does best in soft sand substrates with plenty of hiding spots like rocks, caves, and driftwood.

Diet: Carnivorous/omnivorous, feeding on sinking foods such as micro pellets, frozen or live foods including bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. It may need targeted feeding in community tanks to ensure it gets enough food.

Compatibility: Generally peaceful but shy. Best kept with calm, non-aggressive fish that will not outcompete it for food. Should not be housed with large, fast, or aggressive species that may stress or bully it.

Size and Growth:

Adult Size: Can grow up to 1.5–2.5 inches (4–6 cm) depending on exact species and environment.

Growth: Moderate growth, with steady development in stable, low-stress aquarium setups.

Overview:

Stigmatogobius sadanundio, commonly referred to in the aquarium trade as the “Lipstick Goby,” is a small goby species valued for its subtle coloration and interesting bottom-dwelling behavior. It is best suited for beginner to intermediate aquarists who can provide stable, clean water conditions and a peaceful aquarium environment.
