A highly territorial and expressive fish, especially males. They are known for frequent flaring, strong awareness of movement, and interactive behavior with their environment. While aggressive toward other males, they can become accustomed to their keeper and feeding routines.
Care Requirements:
Tank Conditions:
Requires a heated, stable aquarium with gentle filtration and low water flow to protect delicate fins. Ideal temperature range is 76–82°F (24–28°C). Prefers soft to moderately hard water with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.5–7.5). A planted setup with floating plants, caves, and resting spots near the surface is ideal.
Diet:
Carnivorous/omnivorous. Should be fed high-quality betta pellets as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A protein-rich diet helps maintain coloration and fin condition.
Compatibility:
Males must be kept alone due to extreme aggression toward other males. In community tanks, only carefully selected peaceful species may be considered, and even then with caution. Fin-nipping fish and other bettas should always be avoided.
