The Red Laser Tetra, scientifically known as Hemigrammus coeruleus, is a captivating freshwater fish prized for its vibrant red and blue colors. This species hails from the Amazon River basin in South America, particularly from the tributaries and slow-moving waters of Brazil and Peru. Its stunning appearance makes it a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts, and it can add a burst of color to any tank.

Origin: Originating from the Amazon River basin in Brazil and Peru.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for Red Laser Tetras ranges from 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F). Maintaining water within this temperature range ensures their health and vitality.

Feeding: Red Laser Tetras are omnivores and will readily accept a variety of foods. To provide a balanced diet, feed them high-quality flake food, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Offering a mix of these foods will help keep them healthy and vibrant.

Water Quality: Maintaining a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.0 and 7.0 and a water hardness of 5-15 dGH is crucial for the well-being of Red Laser Tetras. It's important to regularly monitor water parameters and perform routine water changes to ensure a stable and clean environment for these fish.

Ideal Aquarium Size: For a small school of Red Laser Tetras, a tank with a minimum capacity of 60-80 liters (16-21 gallons) is recommended. Ensure the aquarium is well-planted with ample hiding spots and open swimming areas. These fish thrive in groups, so it's advisable to keep at least six individuals together.

Lifespan: Under proper care and conditions, Red Laser Tetras can live for about 3 to 5 years. Providing them with a well-maintained habitat, a balanced diet, and appropriate tankmates will contribute to their longevity.

Community Tank Compatibility: Red Laser Tetras are peaceful and sociable fish, making them excellent additions to community aquariums. They coexist well with other peaceful fish species of similar size, such as other tetras, rasboras, and small catfish. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or larger fish that might intimidate or harm them.

Breeding: To breed Red Laser Tetras, set up a separate breeding tank with soft, slightly acidic water. Provide fine-leaved plants or spawning mops as hiding places for the eggs. Introduce a well-conditioned pair and encourage them to spawn by gradually raising the temperature and providing live or frozen foods. Once eggs are laid, remove the adults to prevent them from eating their own offspring. After hatching, feed the fry with infusoria and later, finely crushed flakes.
