The Swordtail Wagtail Red, a popular aquarium fish, is known for its vibrant and striking appearance. These fish are characterized by their elongated, sword-like tail fin, which adds an elegant touch to their overall look. Their body coloration is typically a bright red, making them a captivating addition to any aquarium. Originating from Central America, specifically Mexico and Guatemala, Swordtail Wagtail Reds are accustomed to warm, tropical waters.

Origin: Swordtail Wagtail Reds hail from the Central American countries of Mexico and Guatemala.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Swordtail Wagtail Reds is between 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F), replicating their natural tropical habitat.

Feeding: These fish are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet. They can be fed high-quality flake food, pellets, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and even vegetable matter like spirulina flakes. A diverse diet helps maintain their health and coloration.

Water Quality: Maintaining water with a pH level between 6.5 to 8.0 and a water hardness of 10-20 dH is ideal for Swordtail Wagtail Reds. Ensuring good filtration and regular water changes is crucial for their well-being.

Ideal Aquarium Size: For a small group of Swordtail Wagtail Reds, a tank with a minimum capacity of 75 liters (20 gallons) is recommended. Providing ample swimming space, hiding spots, and planted areas mimics their natural habitat and promotes their overall health.

Lifespan: With proper care, Swordtail Wagtail Reds can live for about 3 to 5 years in captivity. A well-maintained environment and a balanced diet contribute to their longevity.

Community Tank Compatibility: Swordtail Wagtail Reds are generally peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive species. However, it's essential to avoid housing them with fin-nipping or aggressive tankmates. They are social fish and thrive in groups of their own kind.

Breeding: Breeding Swordtail Wagtail Reds can be achieved by setting up a separate breeding tank with suitable plants for fry to hide in. Provide a diet rich in protein to enhance the breeding process. The females give birth to live young, and a single female can produce multiple batches of fry without the need for special intervention.
