The Swordtail Pineapple is a captivating and colorful freshwater fish known for its vibrant appearance. With its distinct yellow and orange hues, coupled with its sword-like tail, this species adds a burst of color and elegance to any aquarium. Originating from Central America, specifically Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, these fish thrive in warm, tropical waters.

Origin: Swordtails hail from Central America, with their natural habitat spanning Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Temperature: For optimal health and comfort, maintain a water temperature between 24°C and 28°C (75°F to 82°F).

Feeding: A varied diet is essential for Swordtails. Offer a combination of high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia to ensure a well-rounded diet.

Water Quality: Maintain a pH level between 7.0 and 8.0 and keep the water hardness within the range of 10 to 20 dGH (degrees of General Hardness) to replicate their natural habitat conditions.

Ideal Aquarium Size: A minimum tank size of 75 liters (20 gallons) is recommended for a small school. Adequate filtration and a well-planted environment with hiding spots and swimming space are essential for their well-being.

Lifespan: When provided with proper care, Swordtail Pineapples can live for an average of 3 to 5 years, although some individuals may exceed this lifespan.

Community Tank Compatibility: Swordtails are generally peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive fish species. However, it's important to avoid housing them with fin-nipping or aggressive tank mates. They thrive in community setups with similar-sized peaceful fish.

Breeding: Breeding Swordtails is relatively straightforward. To encourage breeding, provide a separate breeding tank with ample hiding places, gentle filtration, and a temperature around 26°C (79°F). Introduce one male to two or more females, as they are known for their prolific breeding habits. Once pregnant, female Swordtails will display a dark gravid spot near their anal fin. After approximately 4-6 weeks, they will give birth to live fry. Separating the fry from the adults is crucial to prevent them from being eaten.
