The Red & Black Tuxedo Platy is a vibrant and eye-catching freshwater fish known for its striking coloration, combining hues of red and black in a unique pattern. This small, peaceful species is a popular choice among aquarists, especially beginners, due to its hardiness and ease of care. Originating from the dappled streams and rivers of Central America, the Tuxedo Platy has been selectively bred to enhance its color and finnage, resulting in the beautiful variety we see today.

Origin: The Red & Black Tuxedo Platy is native to the freshwater habitats of Central America.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for maintaining a healthy environment for the Red & Black Tuxedo Platy is between 20°C to 26°C (68°F to 79°F).

Feeding: Tuxedo Platies are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet. Offer them high-quality flake food, frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp for optimal health and coloration.

Water Quality: These platies prefer a pH level ranging from 7.0 to 8.2 and a water hardness between 10 to 28 dGH, ensuring a slightly alkaline environment.

Ideal Aquarium Size: A minimum of 75 liters (about 20 gallons) is recommended for keeping Red & Black Tuxedo Platies. They require a well-filtered aquarium with ample swimming space, some hiding spots, and a lid to prevent jumping. Live plants and a moderate current mimic their natural habitat.

Lifespan: With proper care, the Red & Black Tuxedo Platy can live up to 3 to 5 years, contributing to its popularity as a pet.

Community Tank Compatibility: These platies are peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive fish of similar size. They do well in community tanks with species like tetras, mollies, and guppies.

Breeding: Breeding Red & Black Tuxedo Platies is relatively straightforward. They are livebearers, meaning the females give birth to free-swimming fry. Provide a breeding tank with plenty of hiding spots for the fry to avoid predation. The gestation period lasts about 4-6 weeks.

Please note: We don't ship live animals. You can order online and choose click and collect, and we will hold it for you.
