The Red Tail Black Shark, scientifically known as Epalzeorhynchos bicolor, is a striking and sought-after freshwater fish species in the aquarium hobby. Originating from Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Cambodia, this fish is known for its distinctive appearance with a sleek black body and a vivid red tail fin.

Origin: The Red Tail Black Shark hails from the river systems of Southeast Asia, predominantly in Thailand and Cambodia.

Temperature: Maintaining a stable water temperature between 24-28°C (75-82°F) is ideal for these fish, as they thrive in warm tropical conditions.

Feeding: These omnivorous fish have a diverse diet, which should include high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen treats like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter. Ensuring a balanced diet will help maintain their vibrant colors and overall health.

Water Quality: The Red Tail Black Shark prefers slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.5-7.5 and moderate water hardness. Consistent water quality and regular maintenance are crucial to their well-being.

Ideal Aquarium Size: To provide ample space for their territorial nature, it's recommended to keep these fish in an aquarium of at least 120 centimeters (48 inches) in length. A tank of this size will not only accommodate their swimming needs but also offer hiding places and territories to establish their dominance.

Lifespan: With proper care and a suitable environment, Red Tail Black Sharks can live up to 8-10 years, making them a long-term commitment for aquarium enthusiasts.

Community Tank Compatibility: While these fish can be territorial and aggressive towards their own kind, they can coexist with other peaceful and non-territorial species. However, avoid housing them with fish of similar body shape and coloration, as this may lead to territorial disputes.

Breeding: Breeding Red Tail Black Sharks in a home aquarium can be challenging due to their territorial behavior and limited information on their breeding habits. Generally, a separate breeding tank with suitable hiding spots, such as caves and plants, may encourage spawning. However, successful breeding often requires specific conditions and expertise.
