The Giant Danio, known scientifically as Devario aequipinnatus, is a striking and active species in the aquarium hobby, renowned for its size and vibrant coloration. As one of the largest species in the Danio family, it can grow up to 10-12 cm (4-5 inches) in length. The Giant Danio boasts a sleek, elongated body with a pattern of blue and gold horizontal stripes, which shimmer under aquarium lights. This vibrant coloration, combined with their size, makes them a popular choice for larger community aquariums. They are known for their hardiness, fast swimming, and playful nature.

Origin: Giant Danios are native to the clear and fast-moving streams and rivers of South Asia, specifically found in countries like India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Giant Danios is between 22°C and 27°C (72°F to 81°F).

Water Quality: They thrive in a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0 and prefer soft to moderately hard water. Regular maintenance and stable water conditions are important for their health.

Aquarium Size: A minimum tank size of 75 liters is recommended for a group of Giant Danios. Given their size and active swimming nature, they require ample space to swim. They are best kept in schools of at least six for their social well-being.

Feeding: Giant Danios are omnivorous. They should be fed a diet of high-quality flake food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.

Lifespan: In a well-maintained aquarium, they can live for about 5-7 years.

Behavior and Personality: Giant Danios are energetic and playful. They are best kept in groups where they display active schooling behavior. They are peaceful and suitable for larger community tanks with other non-aggressive, similarly sized fish.
