Cabbage Hispi, also known as sweetheart cabbage, is a versatile and flavorful vegetable with a tightly packed, conical head. Its tender leaves offer a mild, slightly sweet taste, making it a favorite for salads, stir-fries, and coleslaws.

Why we like it:

  • Sweet and mild flavor
  • Versatile for various culinary uses
  • Tender, tightly packed leaves

What to know:

  • Requires full sun and well-draining soil
  • Regular watering to keep soil consistently moist
  • Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds
  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks during growing season
  • Watch for pests like cabbage worms and aphids

When to Sow: Cabbage Hispi seeds can be sown indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, or directly outdoors once the soil is workable and temperatures remain consistently above 45°F (7°C).

When to harvest: Harvest cabbage Hispi when heads feel firm to the touch, typically around 10-12 weeks after planting. Cut the head at the base, leaving the outer leaves intact for protection during storage.

Eventual Height and Spread: When fully grown, cabbage Hispi can reach a height of approximately 30-45 centimeters with a similar spread.
