Cambodian Male Fighters, also known as Betta fish, are a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts due to their striking colors and easy maintenance. These fish are native to the rice paddies and slow-moving streams of Southeast Asia, and they are known for their unique behavior and personality. Cambodian Male Fighters are territorial and aggressive towards other male Bettas, making them unsuitable for community aquariums unless kept with non-aggressive fish or a solitary Betta. They prefer a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding places and slow-moving water. Cambodian Male Fighters are generally hardy fish and can thrive in a range of water conditions, as long as the temperature and pH are stable.
Feeding
Cambodian Male Fighters are carnivores and require a protein-rich diet. They can be fed a combination of high-quality Betta pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp, bloodworms, and other small live or frozen foods. It is essential to avoid overfeeding Bettas as they are prone to obesity and other health problems.
Special Requirements
Cambodian Male Fighters require a well-maintained tank with stable water parameters. The temperature of the water should be between 75-82°F, and the pH should be between 6.0-8.0. They also require good water filtration and aeration to maintain water quality. Bettas are labyrinth fish, which means they breathe air from the surface of the water. Therefore, it is important to leave a gap between the water surface and the lid of the aquarium to allow air circulation.
Ideal Aquarium Size
The ideal tank size for a Cambodian Male Fighter is a minimum of 5 gallons (19 liters). However, larger tanks are preferred as they provide more swimming space and allow for better water parameters.
Temperament
Cambodian Male Fighters are territorial fish and should be kept either alone or with non-aggressive fish species. They should not be kept with other male Bettas, as they will fight to the death. Female Bettas can also be aggressive towards males, so it is important to monitor their behavior carefully.
Adult size
Cambodian Male Fighters can grow up to 7 cm in length, including their fins.
PH Range
The recommended pH range for Cambodian Male Fighters is between 6.0-8.0.
