Hydrangea macrophylla, commonly known as bigleaf hydrangea, is a beloved shrub well-known for its large, showy blooms that can change color based on the soil pH. This species features two main types of flowers: mophead, with large, round flower clusters, and lacecap, with flat clusters of small fertile flowers surrounded by larger sterile ones. The leaves are broad and glossy, adding lush greenery to the garden. Bigleaf hydrangea blooms from early summer to late autumn, offering a long season of color in shades of blue, pink, purple, or white, depending on soil acidity.
