Blechnum spicant, commonly known as deer fern, is a striking, evergreen fern is distinguished by its glossy, dark green fronds that grow in a neat, symmetrical rosette. Unlike many ferns, Blechnum spicant produces two types of fronds: the sterile ones are broad and lie close to the ground, while the fertile fronds are taller, narrower, and stand erect in the center of the plant. This elegant fern is perfect for adding texture and greenery to shaded garden areas, woodland settings, or as an understory plant in moist, shaded borders.
