The Thorny Stick Insect, scientifically known as Aretaon asperrimus "Sabah," is a fascinating and unique insect species that hails from the tropical rainforests of Sabah, a Malaysian state on the island of Borneo. This incredible insect has evolved to resemble a thorny twig, making it an excellent example of camouflage in the natural world.

Origin: The Thorny Stick Insect is native to the rainforests of Sabah, Malaysia, which is located on the island of Borneo.

Temperature: These insects thrive in a warm and humid environment, with an ideal temperature range between 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29°C). Maintaining a stable temperature within this range is essential for their well-being.

Housing: To provide a suitable habitat for Thorny Stick Insects, you will need a spacious enclosure with plenty of vertical branches or twigs, resembling the natural vegetation of their rainforest habitat. Maintain high humidity levels by misting their enclosure regularly, and ensure good ventilation to prevent mold growth. A substrate of coconut fiber or peat moss can be used for moisture retention.

Feeding: Thorny Stick Insects primarily feed on a diet of fresh leaves from a variety of plants, such as bramble, oak, rose, and eucalyptus. Ensure a constant supply of fresh, pesticide-free leaves in their enclosure. Regularly inspect the leaves for signs of dehydration and replace them as needed.

Lifespan: The lifespan of Thorny Stick Insects typically ranges from 1 to 2 years in captivity. Their life cycle includes multiple stages, from eggs to nymphs to adults. These insects are known for their impressive ability to reproduce asexually through parthenogenesis, which means females can lay fertile eggs without the need for males.

Behavior and Personality: Thorny Stick Insects are known for their gentle and docile nature. They are primarily nocturnal and spend their days resting on branches, resembling twigs to avoid detection by predators. Their behavior is characterized by slow and deliberate movements, making them excellent subjects for observation in a captive environment.
