The Diamond Rummynose Tetra, scientifically known as Hemigrammus rhodostomus, is a stunning and popular freshwater aquarium fish that hails from South America. With its striking appearance, characterized by a vibrant red head and a shimmering diamond-shaped patch on its body, it is a favorite among aquarists seeking to add color and elegance to their tanks.

Origin: These charming fish are native to the Rio Orinoco and Rio Negro river basins in Venezuela and Brazil, where they inhabit slow-moving, clear waters among densely vegetated areas.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for Diamond Rummynose Tetras ranges from 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F), making them well-suited for a tropical aquarium environment.

Feeding: These tetras are omnivores and should be offered a varied diet. Their diet can include high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Providing a mix of these foods will ensure their nutritional needs are met.

Water Quality: Maintaining stable water conditions is crucial for Diamond Rummynose Tetras. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0, as well as soft to moderately hard water with a hardness level ranging from 2 to 15 dGH.

Ideal Aquarium Size: A minimum tank size of around 60 liters (16 gallons) is recommended for a small school of Diamond Rummynose Tetras. These fish are shoaling species, so they should be kept in groups of at least six to provide them with a sense of security and encourage their natural behavior.

Lifespan: With proper care, Diamond Rummynose Tetras can live for up to 5 years or more in captivity. Consistently maintaining optimal water conditions and a balanced diet is essential for their longevity.

Community Tank Compatibility: These tetras are peaceful by nature and get along well with other peaceful fish species that share similar water parameters. They are an excellent choice for a community aquarium and can be housed with other small, non-aggressive fish.

Breeding: To breed Diamond Rummynose Tetras, you'll need a separate breeding tank with soft, slightly acidic water. Provide fine-leaved plants as spawning sites and condition the breeding pair with live or frozen foods. The female will lay eggs among the plants, and the male will fertilize them. Once the eggs are laid, remove the adult fish to prevent them from eating the eggs. The eggs will hatch in about 24-36 hours, and the fry can be fed with infusoria or powdered fry food until they are large enough to accept brine shrimp nauplii.
