The Neon Tetra, scientifically known as Paracheirodon innesi, is one of the most iconic and beloved freshwater aquarium fish. These small, vibrant fish are native to the blackwater streams of South America, particularly in the Amazon basin. Neon Tetras are known for their striking colors, featuring iridescent blue-green backs that blend into a bright, neon red stripe that extends from their nose to their adipose fin. Their eye-catching appearance and peaceful nature make them a popular choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Origin: Neon Tetras are native to the slow-moving, acidic blackwater streams and tributaries of South America, particularly in the Amazon basin.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Neon Tetras is between 22°C to 27°C (72°F to 81°F).

Water Quality: They thrive in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 and low to moderate water hardness.

Aquarium Size: A minimum tank size of 40 liters is recommended for a school of Neon Tetras. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six individuals. The tank should be well-planted with open swimming spaces.

Feeding: Neon Tetras are omnivores and can be fed a diet of high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia for dietary variety.

Lifespan: With proper care, Neon Tetras can live for about 5 to 10 years in captivity.

Behavior and Personality: Neon Tetras are peaceful and social fish, known for their schooling behavior. They feel more secure and exhibit their vibrant colors when kept in a group. They are a great addition to community tanks and coexist well with other non-aggressive species.
