The Galaxy Platy, scientifically known as Xiphophorus maculatus "Galaxy," is a stunning freshwater fish that has gained popularity among aquarium enthusiasts for its unique appearance. This species showcases a vibrant and mesmerizing combination of colors, resembling a starry night sky with its scattered, iridescent spots. Originating from Central America, particularly Mexico, these fish are found in slow-moving or still waters such as streams, ponds, and ditches.

Origin: The Galaxy Platy hails from Central America, primarily Mexico, where it inhabits various freshwater environments.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for Galaxy Platies ranges between 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F), making them comfortable in the typical tropical aquarium setup.

Feeding: Galaxy Platies are omnivores and enjoy a diverse diet. They should be fed a combination of high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms to ensure their nutritional needs are met.

Water Quality: Maintaining the right water parameters is crucial for the well-being of Galaxy Platies. They thrive in slightly alkaline water with a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0 and prefer moderately hard to hard water with a hardness of 10-20 dGH (German degrees of hardness).

Ideal Aquarium Size: For a group of Galaxy Platies, a minimum aquarium size of 60 liters (16 gallons) is recommended. These fish appreciate ample swimming space, and the tank should be equipped with suitable filtration and regular water changes to maintain optimal conditions.

Lifespan: The average lifespan of Galaxy Platies is typically around 2 to 3 years in a well-maintained aquarium. Proper care, water quality, and a balanced diet can extend their lifespan.

Community Tank Compatibility: Galaxy Platies are generally peaceful and make excellent additions to community tanks. They can coexist with other peaceful fish species like guppies, mollies, and tetras. However, ensure there are no aggressive tankmates that may harass or stress them.

Breeding: Breeding Galaxy Platies is relatively straightforward. To encourage breeding, maintain a ratio of males to females and provide plenty of hiding places for fry to seek refuge. These fish are livebearers, and pregnant females will give birth to fry after a gestation period of approximately 28 days. Separate the fry from the adults to protect them from potential predation.

Please note: We don't ship live animals. You can order online and choose click and collect, and we will hold it for you.
