The Bala Shark, also known as the Silver Shark, is a popular freshwater aquarium fish that belongs to the family Cyprinidae. Native to Southeast Asia, these fish are commonly found in rivers and streams with moderate to fast water flow. They are known for their sleek, silver body and long, pointed fins, which give them an appearance similar to that of a shark.

Feeding Bala Sharks are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods in the wild, including small crustaceans, insects, and plant matter. In captivity, they should be fed a balanced diet that includes both commercial flakes or pellets and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms.

Special Requirements Bala Sharks require a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of space to swim. They are active fish and require a tank with plenty of open swimming space. They also require a moderate to strong water flow and should be kept in a tank with a filtration system that can handle their waste.

Ideal Aquarium Size The ideal aquarium size for Bala Sharks is at least 200 liters or 55 gallons. However, larger tanks are recommended if keeping a group of these fish or if they are kept with other large fish species.

Temperament Bala Sharks are peaceful and sociable fish that can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive species. However, they may become territorial towards members of their own species, especially when kept in small groups. It is recommended to keep them in groups of at least six individuals to help minimize aggression.

Adult Size Bala Sharks can grow up to 35 cm in length, although they typically reach an adult size of around 25 cm in captivity.

PH Range Bala Sharks prefer a neutral to slightly alkaline pH range of 6.5-8.0. It is important to maintain stable water parameters to keep these fish healthy and thriving in the aquarium.
