The Red Terror Cichlid originates from South America, specifically from the Rio Guayas and Rio Esmeraldas river systems in Ecuador. It can also be found in other parts of South America, including Peru and Colombia.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for keeping Red Terror Cichlids is in the range of 24-28°C (75-82°F). Maintaining a stable temperature within this range is crucial for their health and well-being.

Feeding: Red Terror Cichlids are omnivorous and have a diverse diet. They can be fed a variety of foods, including high-quality pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small fish. A balanced diet with a mix of protein and plant matter is essential for their overall health and vibrant coloration.

Water Quality: These cichlids prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, with a pH range of 6.0-7.0. The water hardness should be in the range of 5-15 dGH (degrees of General Hardness) to ensure their well-being and vitality.

Ideal Aquarium Size: To accommodate the Red Terror Cichlid's territorial nature and potential growth, it is recommended to provide a spacious aquarium of at least 200 liters (approximately 53 gallons) or more. The tank should also be decorated with hiding spots and suitable decor to mimic their natural habitat.

Lifespan: When kept in optimal conditions, Red Terror Cichlids can have a relatively long lifespan, averaging around 10-15 years. Providing them with proper care, a suitable environment, and a balanced diet will contribute to their longevity.

Community Tank Compatibility: Due to their aggressive nature, Red Terror Cichlids are not suitable for community tanks with peaceful or smaller fish species. They are best kept in a species-specific aquarium or with other large, robust cichlid species. Tankmates should be chosen carefully to avoid aggression and territorial conflicts.

Breeding: Breeding Red Terror Cichlids can be a rewarding experience. To encourage breeding, provide them with a spacious breeding tank, maintain optimal water parameters, and offer suitable hiding spots. The female will lay eggs on a flat surface, and the male will guard and protect the nest. Once the eggs hatch, both parents will take care of the fry.
