The Vietnam Forest Scorpion, scientifically known as Heterometrus laoticus, is a striking species of scorpion native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in the forests of Vietnam. This species is part of the Heterometrus genus, known for their large size and imposing appearance. Heterometrus laoticus typically exhibits a dark, almost black coloration, with a robust and sturdy body structure. They are a popular choice among scorpion enthusiasts due to their impressive size and relatively calm demeanor compared to other scorpion species.

Origin:

Heterometrus laoticus is indigenous to the tropical forests of Vietnam, where it thrives in humid and shaded environments. These scorpions are often found under logs, rocks, and debris in their natural habitat.

Temperature:

The ideal temperature range for the Vietnam Forest Scorpion is between 75-85°F (24-29°C), with a high humidity level of around 70-80%. These conditions replicate their natural tropical forest habitat.

Housing:

A terrarium for a Vietnam Forest Scorpion should include a substrate that retains moisture, such as coconut fiber or peat moss, allowing for burrowing behavior. The enclosure should also provide hiding spots and a shallow water dish. It's important to maintain high humidity levels and proper ventilation.

Feeding:

Their diet mainly consists of insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Feedings should be done 1-2 times a week, depending on the scorpion's size and feeding behavior.

Lifespan:

In captivity, Vietnam Forest Scorpions can live for several years, with proper care and a suitable environment contributing to their longevity.

Behavior and Personality:

Heterometrus laoticus is known for its relatively docile nature, especially when compared to other scorpion species. However, they can become defensive if provoked or threatened. Handling is generally not recommended, as they can sting or pinch if they feel threatened.
