The Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula, scientifically known as Psalmopoeus irminia, is a striking and captivating arachnid species sought after by many tarantula enthusiasts. Originating from the tropical rainforests of Venezuela, this tarantula is often found dwelling in the trees and can be recognized by its striking coloration, featuring a vibrant mix of red, black, and orange hues. Their stunning appearance and relatively docile nature make them a popular choice among tarantula keepers.

Origin: The Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula, Psalmopoeus irminia, is native to the lush rainforests of Venezuela in South America.

Temperature: To thrive in captivity, these tarantulas require a consistent temperature range of approximately 75-85°F (24-29°C). It is crucial to provide a warm and humid environment to mimic their natural habitat.

Housing: Proper housing for the Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula includes a vertically oriented terrarium with plenty of climbing opportunities, such as branches or cork bark. Substrate should be a mix of coconut coir and vermiculite to maintain humidity, and a shallow water dish should be provided for hydration. Ensure good ventilation while maintaining high humidity levels to ensure the well-being of your tarantula.

Feeding: These tarantulas are carnivorous and primarily feed on insects like crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Younger specimens can be fed more frequently, while adults typically require food every 1-2 weeks. Make sure to offer appropriately-sized prey to prevent overfeeding or underfeeding.

Lifespan: The lifespan of the Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantula is relatively long for a tarantula species, with females living up to 10-15 years and males having a shorter lifespan of around 3-5 years. This species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with females being larger and more robust than males.

Behavior and Personality: Psalmopoeus irminia is known for its semi-arboreal nature, spending a significant amount of time climbing and webbing in their enclosures. They are generally considered to be moderately docile but can exhibit defensive behavior if provoked. Though they may be handled occasionally, it is essential to do so with care and gentleness to avoid stress or injury to the tarantula.
