Avicularia metallica is a tree-dwelling tarantula that can often be found in bromeliads. What is striking about this species of tarantula is the difference between the dark blue to black body and the bright pink-red adhesive pads on the legs.

Origin: Venezuela to northern Brazil

Temperature: 25-30 °C

Housing: As an arboreal species, Metallic Pink Toe Tarantulas require a vertically-oriented terrarium with plenty of climbing structures such as cork bark, branches, and plants. A terrarium size of at least 12 x 12 x 18 inches is recommended for one adult tarantula. Substrate should be kept dry, with a water dish available for drinking.

Feeding: Metallic Pink Toe Tarantulas are carnivorous and eat insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Young tarantulas should be fed small prey items, while adults can handle larger prey. Feed them once a week, and make sure to remove any uneaten prey items from the enclosure to avoid the risk of the tarantula getting injured.

Lifespan: The lifespan of a Metallic Pink Toe Tarantula can range from 8 to 12 years with proper care. Males tend to have a shorter lifespan than females, as they will die shortly after mating.

Behavior and Personality: Metallic Pink Toe Tarantulas are known for being relatively docile and calm, making them a good species for beginner tarantula keepers. They are arboreal and spend most of their time in trees, so it's important to provide plenty of climbing structures in their enclosure. Although they are generally docile, it's important to remember that all tarantulas have the potential to bite if they feel threatened.
