Tulip 'Greenland' is a Viridiflora tulip with rose-pink petals marked by fresh green streaks. Its unusual colouring lifts late spring borders and looks particularly good beside lime-green foliage or in a vase.
Why we like it
- Pink and green flowers offer something a little different.
- Useful for cutting and spring container displays.
- Fits neatly among cottage garden perennials.
What to know
- Position: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Avoid ground that stays wet in winter.
- Planting: Plant in autumn, ideally October–November, about 15–20 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart. December planting is possible while the ground is workable.
- Containers: Use a pot with drainage holes and free-draining compost. Water after planting and during dry spells in active growth.
- After flowering: Remove faded flower heads and leave the foliage until it yellows naturally; this helps the bulbs build reserves.
- Handling: Ornamental tulip bulbs are not edible. Wear gloves if sensitive to bulbs.
Flower colour: Rose pink with green streaks.
Flowering months: April–May, depending on the season.
Height and spread: Approximately 45–50 cm; allow approximately 10–15 cm per bulb.
