Key Features:

Distinctive Appearance:
A delicate nano fish known for its slender body, shimmering silver coloration, and subtle iridescent blue-green highlights. The Vietnamese Cardinal Minnow displays a refined, elegant appearance with a soft metallic sheen that becomes more noticeable when kept in a healthy group.

Graceful Swimmer:
Displays active schooling behavior with quick, graceful movements, often swimming through the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. When kept in a group, they create a beautiful flowing display as they move together through planted areas.

Behavior:
Peaceful, shy, and highly social, Vietnamese Cardinal Minnows thrive in groups and feel most secure when kept with their own kind. Their calm nature makes them well suited for peaceful community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive species.

Care Requirements:

Tank Conditions:

Requires a well-planted aquarium with gentle water flow, open swimming areas, and shaded sections created by floating plants, driftwood, or dense vegetation. Ideal water temperature is 68–77°F (20–25°C), with a pH of 6.0–7.5 preferred. Stable water conditions and excellent water quality are important due to their small size and delicate nature.

Diet:

Omnivorous. Thrives on a varied diet including high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other small frozen or live foods. A varied diet helps maintain energy, coloration, and healthy growth.

Compatibility:

Very peaceful and ideal for community aquariums with other small, calm fish. Best kept with species such as small rasboras, tetras, dwarf shrimp, and Corydoras. Avoid large, aggressive, or fast-moving fish that may intimidate them or compete for food.

Size and Growth:

Adult Size:

Typically reaches 2–2.5 cm (0.8–1 inch).

Growth:

Grows steadily under optimal care, with juveniles maturing relatively quickly when provided with stable water conditions, proper schooling, and a nutrient-rich diet. Maintaining a stress-free environment helps enhance their natural shimmer and active schooling behavior.
