Key Features:
Distinctive Appearance:
A charming nano fish known for its small size, delicate body shape, and attractive spotted patterning. The Spotted Dwarf Rasbora displays a silvery to golden body with dark markings along the sides and subtle iridescent highlights that shimmer under aquarium lighting. Its compact appearance and gentle colors make it a beautiful addition to planted nano aquariums.
Graceful Swimmer:
Displays active schooling behavior with quick, delicate movements, often staying in the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. When kept in a group, they move together gracefully through plants and open swimming spaces, creating a peaceful natural display.
Behavior:
Peaceful, shy, and social, Spotted Dwarf Rasboras thrive when kept in groups. They are best suited to calm community aquariums where they can display natural schooling behavior without competition from larger or aggressive fish.
Care Requirements:
Tank Conditions:
Requires a well-planted aquarium with dense vegetation, gentle water flow, and shaded areas created by floating plants, driftwood, or leaf litter. Ideal water temperature is 72–79°F (22–26°C), with a pH of 5.5–7.5 preferred. Stable water conditions and good water quality are important due to their small size and delicate nature.
Diet:
Omnivorous. Thrives on a varied diet including high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other small frozen or live foods. A varied diet helps maintain health, energy, and natural coloration.
Compatibility:
Very peaceful and best kept with other small, calm community fish. Suitable tank mates include small rasboras, tetras, dwarf shrimp, and Corydoras species. Avoid large, aggressive, or highly active fish that may intimidate them or view them as food.
Size and Growth:
Adult Size:
Typically reaches 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 inches).
Growth:
Grows steadily under optimal care, with juveniles maturing relatively quickly when provided with stable water conditions, proper schooling, and a nutrient-rich diet. Maintaining a stress-free environment helps enhance their natural markings and activity.
