The Spiney-Headed Hillstream Loach is an unusual bottom-dwelling freshwater fish adapted to clean, fast-flowing streams. Its flattened body and specialised fins make it an excellent choice for a mature river-style aquarium.
Behaviour
Active around rocks, glass and décor, where it grazes naturally. It is generally peaceful but may show mild territorial behaviour toward similar bottom dwellers.
Tank size
Provide a mature aquarium with a strong current, high oxygen levels, smooth rocks and plenty of grazing surfaces.
Compatibility
Best kept with peaceful fish that enjoy similar cool, highly oxygenated conditions. Avoid slow-moving species that prefer still water.
Diet
Offer algae-based foods and sinking wafers, supplemented with suitable small frozen foods. A mature biofilm-rich aquarium is important.
Care
Maintain excellent water quality, powerful filtration and strong surface movement. Avoid adding this species to a newly established aquarium.
