Otocinclus affinis, commonly known as the Otocinclus or Dwarf Suckermouth Catfish, is a small and peaceful freshwater fish species appreciated in the aquarium hobby for its algae-eating habits and its ability to help keep aquariums clean. These fish are part of the Loricariidae family and are native to South America, particularly the Amazon River basin. They are known for their slender, elongated bodies and their sucker-like mouths, which they use to feed on algae and biofilm from aquarium surfaces.

Origin: Otocinclus affinis is native to South America, found in regions of Brazil, Peru, and Colombia.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Otocinclus affinis is between 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F).

Water Quality: They prefer a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and thrive in soft to moderately hard water conditions.

Aquarium Size: These fish are small and should be kept in groups of at least 3 to 5 individuals. A tank size of 75 liters or more is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and accommodate their social behavior.

Feeding: Otocinclus affinis primarily feed on algae and biofilm in the aquarium. While they can help control algae growth, it's essential to supplement their diet with algae wafers or blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber, as algae alone may not provide enough nutrition.

Lifespan: With proper care, Otocinclus affinis can live for about 3 to 5 years.

Behavior and Personality: Otocinclus affinis is known for its peaceful and social nature. They are excellent community fish and get along well with other non-aggressive species. Their algae-eating habits make them a valuable addition to planted aquariums, as they help maintain a clean and healthy environment.
