Perennial Lobelia 'Starship Blue' | Lobelia × speciosa 'Starship Blue'
Deep purple-blue flowers stand on tall spikes above fresh green foliage. A moisture-loving perennial, 'Starship Blue' brings strong vertical colour to summer borders and is particularly useful in fertile soil that does not dry out.
Why we like it
- Deep blue flower spikes add rich colour.
- A tidy clump suits mixed borders.
- An attractive choice for moist garden areas.
What to know
- Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile soil that stays reliably moist.
- Water generously during dry weather; this is unsuitable for dry gravel beds.
- Protect the crown with a dry winter mulch in colder or exposed gardens.
- Cut down faded flower spikes and divide healthy clumps in spring.
- Watch for slugs around new growth; harmful if eaten, so wear gloves when handling.
