| Origin |
Boa species originate in Central and South America; locality is unconfirmed. |
| Adult size |
Varies with species, locality and sex. Many reach 150–300 cm; some become larger. Do not assume a dwarf form. |
| Lifespan |
Often 20–30 years or more. |

Mainly dusk and night-active; benefits from climbing opportunities. |
| Identification |
Hypomelanistic appearance; exact species and locality unconfirmed. |
Housing & Setup
Enclosure dimensions are length × depth × height. Plan for the adult animal and provide more space wherever possible.
| Adult housing |
A secure, robust, ventilated enclosure large enough for the snake to stretch out fully. Plan length at least equal to its expected adult length, with generous depth and climbing height; confirm dimensions for this animal before purchase. |
| Temperature |
Typical starting gradient for commonly kept Boa species: warm area around 30–32°C, cool end 24–26°C. Final settings must suit the identified animal. |
| Humidity |
Generally around 55–75% for commonly kept Boa species, with ventilation and dry resting surfaces; adjust for the confirmed species and shedding. |
| Furnishings |
Well-fitting hides at both ends, strong securely mounted branches and a heavy clean water bowl. Guard heat sources and use thermostats. |
| Lighting |
Provide a regular day/night cycle, shaded retreats and an appropriate low-level UVB setup where supplied. Avoid coloured night lights. |
Behaviour & Compatibility
House alone. Allow settling time and never handle around feeding or during shedding. Support the whole body. A large boa needs experienced handling and suitable help as it grows.
Feeding & Nutrition
Use appropriately sized, fully thawed frozen rodents on an age- and body-condition-based schedule agreed with our reptile team. Confirm it is feeding reliably on this diet. Avoid live rodents and overfeeding; fresh water must always be available.
Routine Care
Check temperatures, humidity, security, appetite and breathing daily. Remove waste promptly and clean the water bowl whenever soiled. Monitor shedding and body condition. Obtain advice from an exotics vet for retained shed, mites or persistent feeding problems.
Important Before Buying
Species/locality and expected adult size must be confirmed before final housing and husbandry advice can be agreed. The care ranges here are introductory guidance for commonly kept Boa species, not a confirmed species-specific care sheet.
