Key Features:
Distinctive Appearance:
A popular nano schooling fish known for its vibrant copper-orange body, metallic sheen, and distinctive black triangular marking along the rear half of the body. Its translucent fins and warm coloration create a striking contrast, especially when kept in a healthy school.
Graceful Swimmer:
Displays active, synchronized schooling movements, often swimming through the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. Their coordinated movement creates a lively yet peaceful display, especially in planted aquariums.
Behavior:
Peaceful, social, and easy to care for, Harlequin Rasboras thrive when kept in groups. They are naturally schooling fish that feel more secure and show better coloration when maintained in larger numbers.
Care Requirements:
Tank Conditions:
Requires a well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas, driftwood, and shaded sections to replicate its natural environment. Ideal water temperature is 72–80°F (22–27°C), with a pH of 6.0–7.5 preferred. Stable water conditions, gentle filtration, and regular maintenance help maintain health and vibrant coloration.
Diet:
Omnivorous. Thrives on a varied diet including high-quality micro pellets, flakes, frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and small live foods. A balanced diet helps enhance coloration and supports healthy growth.
Compatibility:
Very peaceful and ideal for community aquariums. Best kept with other calm schooling fish such as tetras, danios, Corydoras, and other rasboras. Avoid aggressive or much larger fish that may intimidate or prey on them.
Size and Growth:
Adult Size:
Typically reaches 4–5 cm (1.5–2 inches), although juveniles are commonly sold at 2.5–3 cm.
Growth:
Grows steadily under optimal care, with juveniles reaching maturity in approximately 6–12 months. Clean water, proper schooling, and a varied diet help develop stronger coloration and natural behavior.
