Key Features:

Distinctive Appearance:
A unique aquatic amphibian known for its bright golden-yellow coloration and small, rounded body shape. Unlike fully aquatic fish, African Dwarf Frogs have delicate limbs, webbed feet, and expressive eyes that give them a charming appearance. Their compact size and peaceful nature make them a popular choice for planted aquariums.

Graceful Swimmer:
Displays gentle, floating movements, often swimming upward to the surface for air before slowly exploring the lower areas of the aquarium. They enjoy resting on plants, decorations, and smooth surfaces, adding calm and interesting activity to the tank.

Behavior:
Peaceful, social, and entertaining, African Dwarf Frogs are best kept in groups and spend much of their time exploring, resting, and searching for food. They are slow-moving and rely heavily on scent and movement to locate meals, making them unsuitable with aggressive or highly competitive tank mates.

Care Requirements:

Tank Conditions:

Requires a peaceful, well-established aquarium with plenty of plants, hiding places, and gentle water flow. Ideal water temperature is 72–78°F (22–26°C), with a pH of 6.5–7.8 preferred. A secure lid is recommended, as they may climb or jump out, and easy access to the surface is important because they breathe atmospheric air.

Diet:

Carnivorous. Thrives on a varied diet including high-quality sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and other small aquatic foods. Feeding should be slow and controlled, as they are not aggressive eaters and may struggle to compete with faster tank mates.

Compatibility:

Very peaceful and best kept with other calm community species that will not outcompete or harm them. Suitable tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, peaceful shrimp, and other African Dwarf Frogs. Avoid large fish, aggressive species, and fin-nippers that may stress or prey on them.

Size and Growth:

Adult Size:

Typically reaches 3–4 cm (1–1.5 inches), although juveniles are commonly sold at around 2 cm.

Growth:

Grows slowly under proper care, with juveniles gradually developing into adults over several months. Warm, stable water conditions and a nutritious diet help support healthy growth, strong coloration, and long-term vitality.
