Reptile Team Recommendation

Know your animal

Read the species care guide below, then talk to our team about the right enclosure and feeding routine.

The Ghost Mantis (Phyllocrania paradoxa) is a leaf-mimicking African praying mantis whose flattened, curled profile blends beautifully with dry foliage. It is an ambush predator and needs room to moult safely.

Origin

African woodland and scrub habitats.

Temperature

Approximately 22–27°C, monitored inside the enclosure.

Housing

Provide a tall, well-ventilated and escape-proof enclosure, with dry twigs, vertical climbing branches and clear hanging space for moulting.

Humidity & Water

Maintain moderate humidity and light misting as appropriate, allowing the enclosure to dry and avoiding stagnant air.

Feeding

Offer small captive-bred fruit flies to young nymphs and appropriately sized flies and other feeder insects to larger animals.

Lifespan & Growth

Life expectancy depends on sex and the stage supplied. Ask our team for the age and size of the current animal.

Behaviour

An alert camouflage specialist. Keep singly unless an experienced keeper has suitable arrangements; cannibalism remains possible.

Please note: Live animals are Click & Collect only from Newlands Home & Garden Centre.
