The Denison Barb, also known as the Red-line Torpedo Barb or Roseline Shark, is a strikingly beautiful freshwater fish that has gained popularity in the aquarium hobby. Scientifically named Sahyadria denisonii, it is known for its vibrant colors and dynamic swimming behavior. This species typically reaches a length of about 15 cm (6 inches), displaying a sleek, streamlined body. The most distinctive features are its bright red line that runs from the tip of the nose to the middle of the body, and a black line that extends towards the tail, against a silver body. They also have a yellow to orange dorsal fin, adding to their visual appeal.

Origin: Denison Barbs are native to the fast-flowing, clear rivers and streams of Western Ghats in India. They are found in highly oxygenated waters with rocky substrates.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Denison Barbs is between 18°C and 23°C (64°F to 73°F).

Water Quality: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH range of 6.8 to 7.8. The water hardness should be moderate.

Aquarium Size: Denison Barbs require a relatively large aquarium due to their size and active nature. A minimum of 200 liters is recommended. These fish are best kept in groups, as they are schooling fish, and the tank should have plenty of space for swimming, along with some hiding spots.

Feeding: Their diet is omnivorous. They do well with high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.

Lifespan: In a well-maintained aquarium, Denison Barbs can live for about 5 to 7 years.

Behavior and Personality: Denison Barbs are known for their peaceful temperament and are best kept with other non-aggressive species. They are active swimmers and enjoy being in a school of their own kind, displaying more confidence and natural behavior in groups.
