Daisy’s blue ricefish (Oryzias woworae) is a small, colourful schooling fish from Sulawesi. Its blue sheen and red-orange fin markings show best in a planted aquarium with gentle flow and open swimming space. This listing is for young fish measuring approximately 1–2 cm.

Overview

Origin: Muna Island, southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Adult size: approximately 3 cm. Keep in a group of at least six, with more space and a larger group where possible.

Behaviour

Peaceful and active in the upper and middle water. Provide plants, including floating cover, while leaving room to swim. A secure lid is advisable.

Tank Size

A mature aquarium at least 60 cm long is recommended for a group. Allow enough swimming space and avoid overstocking.

Compatibility

Suitable with other small, peaceful fish that share its water requirements. Avoid large or predatory tankmates. Do not mix with closely related ricefish where preserving a pure species group matters.

Diet

Offer small portions of fine quality flake or microgranules, with appropriately sized live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp and daphnia. Feed only what the fish will eat promptly.

Care

Maintain clean, well-oxygenated freshwater at approximately 24–28°C, with stable near-neutral to moderately alkaline conditions. Test water regularly, keep ammonia and nitrite at zero, and make regular partial water changes. Acclimatise gradually to the aquarium’s temperature and water chemistry.
