Housing & Setup
Enclosure dimensions are length × depth × height. Plan for the adult animal and provide more space wherever possible.
| Adult housing |
At least 60 × 45 × 45 cm for one adult, prioritising floor area. Provide a secure, ventilated lid. |
| Temperature |
Daytime gradient around 24–28°C; night around 20–24°C. Avoid overheating and use thermostat-controlled heating. |
| Moisture |
Maintain roughly 60–80% humidity, with soft, evenly damp substrate that is never flooded or stagnant. |
| Substrate |
A pesticide-free soil/coco blend deep enough to burrow fully. Avoid gravel, abrasive surfaces and loose pieces that may be swallowed. |
| Lighting & water |
A gentle day/night cycle and suitable low-level UVB with deep shade. Use amphibian-safe conditioned water for misting and a very shallow dish with an easy exit. |
Behaviour & Compatibility
Never keep with another frog or smaller animal; it may attempt to eat a tank mate. Avoid routine handling. For essential movement, use clean damp powder-free gloves or a suitable container.
Feeding & Nutrition
Offer a varied selection of appropriately sized gut-loaded insects and safe feeder earthworms. Growing frogs need smaller, more frequent meals; adults require measured portions to avoid obesity. Dust prey with an appropriate calcium/multivitamin routine matched to UVB provision. Use feeding tongs and avoid fingers near the mouth.
Routine Care
Remove waste and uneaten prey promptly. Renew water daily and monitor temperature, substrate moisture and body condition. Do not force a frog into prolonged dry dormancy. Seek an exotics vet for abnormal skin, bloating or persistent refusal to feed.
