The landscape

Behind the layout

Jan Hjort Ebdrup’s 325-litre layout gives open sand and rounded rocks as much importance as the planting. Vallisneria Tiger adds height and movement, while a smaller group of Cryptocoryne × willisii brings foliage closer to the substrate.

The display takes inspiration from Lake Tanganyika, although these two plant varieties are not native to the lake, so it is not a strict biotope. Its restrained planting palette offers a useful idea for a larger aquarium: let hardscape and open space shape the design, then use plants for contrast.
