Mixed Isopods (Approx. 20 Pack) | Oniscidea
Overview
A prepacked tub of approximately 20 live terrestrial isopods in assorted colour morphs, supplied by Well Fed. Intended for suitable bioactive clean-up crews or as part of an appropriate live-food rotation. Contents can vary.
Identification
Oniscidea is the scientific name of the terrestrial-isopod suborder, not a confirmed species. The supplier does not identify the species or guarantee a particular morph mix, so this pack must not be sold as a named pure-species breeding colony.
Housing
For temporary holding or a starter culture, use a secure, ventilated tub around 20 × 15 cm or larger. Add leaf-rich substrate, decaying hardwood and cork bark. Keep a moss-covered damp refuge at one end and a drier zone at the other. Fine ventilation prevents small individuals escaping.
Temperature & Moisture
As interim holding guidance, use a stable room temperature around 20–24°C and keep the damp refuge from drying out. Avoid overheating and waterlogging. These are starting conditions for an unidentified mix, not a species-specific breeding prescription. Confirm contents before adding to a habitat with unusual heat or humidity.
Feeding
Supply dry hardwood leaf litter and decayed wood continuously, with cuttlebone for calcium. Offer tiny portions of vegetables and occasional fish flake; remove fresh leftovers within 24 hours. They need food while held as feeders too.
Bioactive Use & Care
Introduce beneath cork or leaves near a damp refuge and allow the group to settle. Spot-clean the main animal’s waste and monitor food and moisture; isopods do not replace routine hygiene. Avoid placing unidentified mixed isopods with vulnerable moulting tarantulas. If used as food, choose individuals sized to the predator and use them within a varied diet. Keep a separate culture when possible.
